Franciscan spirituality is the heart of our Center. As stated in our Mission Statement:
We seek to provide environments, experiences, and resources which enable persons to meet God in both stillness and activity. With hospitality, simplicity, and joy, we welcome all as sister and brother.
The Sisters of the St. Francis
All our activities, workshops, retreats, etc. reflect Franciscan values. Three of our programs assist individuals to embrace and live Franciscan values with us, and the fourth is a celebration on Oct. 3, St. Francis' feast day.
Franciscan Companions
"Companions" is the Associates program of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia. Men and women of diverse Christian faith traditions gather each month to study aspects of Franciscan Spirituality, share faith stories, and share in the life and mission of the Sisters. Companions from the Northwest are facilitated by Sister Mary Jo Chaves, OSF.
"The Hermitage retreat was an experience of deep prayer, silence and solitude. The prayer of the community held me as we sat listening at the feet of Jesus, being reminded of God's abundant love and care for us and all of Creation."
Adam Weaver, a Campanion
Franciscan Hermitage
This four-day residential silent retreat is an opportunity to explore Franciscan Spirituality through the lens of St. Francis of Assisi's Rule for Hermitages. Using the scriptual story of Martha and Mary, participants have the opportunity to sit at the feet of Jesus as Mary did while all their needs are met. This retreat is held at The Cedars Retreat Center in Oregon City twice a year. The next one will be from November 12 - 15, 2010. Another Hermitage is scheduled for June 3 - 6, 2011. More information can be found under the Multi Days menu, "Franciscan Hermitage."
