Spiritual Direction

individual spiritual direction & group spiritual direction

What is spiritual direction?

Spiritual Direction fosters a person’s personal, intimate relationship with God. It is companionship given to one person (the directee) by another, which enables the directee to pay attention to God’s presence and activity in his or her life.

What happens in spiritual direction?

Someone seeking direction shares stories and impressions of their encounters of the Divine or how they are cultivating a life attuned to spiritual things. Observations, questions, and longings often come from daily life, interactions with others, and the created world.
We learn through practice to observe our beliefs, expectations, body sensations, and images of God.

We learn to listen to ourselves by having it modeled for us.

We learn to listen to the movements of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

The group experience.

Group Spiritual Direction is similar to Individual Spiritual Direction. One difference is that it is done with a committed small group of people and a director who establishes the safe space and models the kind of open-hearted listening, which the group then learns to do for themselves and one another.
