Five Week Book Group: “Freeing Jesus: Rediscovering Jesus as Friend, Teacher, Savior, Lord, Way and Presence” by Diana Butler Bass Join us in late June as we begin a new summer book study group. We will gather online on five Mondays and discuss the latest book by Diana Butler Bass, “Freeing Jesus: Rediscovering Jesus as Friend, Teacher, Savior, Lord, Way and Presence.” In it, Ms. Butler Bass chronicles her ongoing experience and relationship to Jesus. She invites us to expand our view and understanding of Jesus and to see Him as fully human and fully Divine. By doing so, we have the opportunity to see Jesus not simply as friend, teacher, or lord but to see Him as a wisdom teacher, a palpable Presence in our life, and the Universal Christ who has existed through the millennium. Father James Martin, SJ calls Butler Bass “one of our great Christian writers” and this book “a book on the heart of Christianity." For the summer session, the discussion groups will meet online as before but we will gather every other week beginning on Monday, June 24 and ending on August 19 for a total of five gatherings. Terry Cappiello, our book group facilitator, is gifted in her capacity to draw people into discussion allowing everyone the space to explore and go deeper together. Terry, a former mental health counselor, special education teacher, college professor, avid reader, and traveler, serves on the board of the Franciscan Spiritual Center. She facilitates groups throughout the year in online book studies and in-person retreats. Zoom online gathering. Purchase your book ahead of time. Terry sends out the Zoom link and discussion prompts in advance of every meeting. Every other Monday, June 24 - Aug 19, 2024. The cost is $50. Begins Monday, June 24. Registration is limited.
