Book Group:“Immortal Diamond", Afternoon
Monday Afternoons, 3.30-5pm
Service Description
Eight Week Book Group: “Immortal Diamond” by Richard Rohr. Reading Richard Rohr’s “Immortal Diamond” is a jewel for people in all phases of a life journey. The popularity of his books around the world demonstrates that his words resonate across countries, cultures, genders and religions. In this book, Father Rohr invites us to dig deep and uncover our truest self. This is the part of Himself that Jesus accessed that allowed Him to be fully human and fully Divine. Father Rohr describes the true self as relationship with God as characterized by the prayer, “Let us remember that we are in the holy presence of God”. The false self is attached to the identities that we create for ourselves. It is not bad or wrong; it’s just mortal (p.64) Jesus taught in parables which are often misunderstood when taken literally. Father Rohr uses a style of language to challenge the reader to ponder and reflect on our subjective experience. The “Immortal Diamond” will do just that. The fall book group will begin on Monday September 23 and continue weekly for eight weeks with the last class occurring on November 11. Two groups are available: Monday from 3:30 to 5:00 pm and Monday from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Terry Cappiello, our book group facilitator, is gifted in her capacity to draw people into discussion allowing everyone the space to explore and go deeper together.
