HOMEscaping For Aging in Place [Zoom]
Preparing your home to transition as you age
Service Description
Prepare your home to transition with you through every phase and stage of the second half of life. Preparing your home takes a holistic approach as we look beyond grab bars and stairs. This workshop will help you review whether you are in your forever home or not, have the support in place to stay in your chosen home, and determine your checklist for the next steps to secure your wishes. From professional tips through which professionals can help, this course will help you set your blueprint for HOMEscaping for now and your future! Mary Jo Saavedra will lead this online retreat. She is suited for this role in the best of ways. She is a professional in the subject matter. She is a gerontologist and nationally recognized speaker and author on care and life planning. She also has lived her own experience of it. She is gifted in her capacity to support people as they face their own fears and hesitations. The value of approaching this subject matter in a retreat format includes the gentle removal of obstacles (often born of fear) and the conscious crafting of our plans before crisis hits (and options are removed by circumstance). In a retreat-like format we can better draw on our best selves in considering what is available, what is essential, and what brings life. It also means there is safety in naming and approaching what frightens us without it overwhelming us. Mary Jo’s presentation includes methods, approaches, and best practices that can be learned, adapted, and lived. As a trained spiritual director with a commitment to Franciscan values, Mary Jo will bring a nurturing heart and attention to your story and to building community in this online program. It is important to remember we are not alone as we age. This retreat (over three consecutive evenings in February) will be hosted on Zoom. We will gather on February 20, 21, and 22, from 6-8pm Pacific time. The retreat fee is $75.
